The Heart of Italy

There is a particular shade of pink in the marble that makes Milan Cathedral a unique one. It is this marble, from Candoglia quarries, that inspired Milan Cathedral Remixed to take a fresh look at the iconic Duomo. The Duomo has stood in the centre of Milan for 635 years, a proud spiritual and architectural reference point for a city in constant evolution. With the street view, you can now see every corner of the Cathedral in 360 degrees, from the highest peak, the Madonnina, down to the Crypt, an underground place of meditation and prayer.

In the year 1965, the Milan Duomo was finally completed and was ready for restoration work to begin. This beautiful Roman Catholic Cathedral is an example of Italian Gothic Architecture. Milan’s Duomo has 135 spires and you can get a closer look at them plus the facade’s buttresses and flying buttresses by taking a tour of the roof. The entirety of the facade is covered with carved architectural elements portraying flowers, fruits and fantastical beasts, including delightfully grotesque gargoyles. You can go up to the rooftop and look out at the city beyond as well as get closer views of the needle-like spires, each topped with a religious figure. The cathedral’s edifice is made of candoglia marble from Lake Maggiore to the north of Milan.
